Reminder to University Staff: Review Leave Balances Now to Avoid Losing Hours
December 16, 2019
University Staff employees (paid biweekly) should review their leave balances now to avoid losing hours that are not eligible for carry over into 2020.
Vacation - All vacation hours carried over from 2018 must be used or if eligible, banked or paid out by December 31, 2019 or they will be lost.
Personal and Legal Holidays - Personal and Legal Holiday hours granted for 2019 must be used by December 31, 2019 or they will be lost. Holiday hours are not eligible to be banked or paid out.
To be eligible to bank or request cash payout of unused vacation, you must meet the years of service requirement. Review UW System Administrative Policy 1210 (formerly BN 1) Vacation, Paid Leave Banks, and Vacation Cash Payouts for details on banking or cashing out vacation. All requests to bank or receive vacation cash payout must be received by December 31, 2019.
To review your leave balances online:
Donate Leave - Consider donating leave time you will not be able to use to the Catastrophic Leave Program, complete a Catastrophic Leave Donor Authorization Form and return it to your human resources office by December 31, 2019. Vacation carryover must be donated prior to its expiration date. However, once donated, the hours will not expire. Additional details about the Catastrophic Leave Program may be found on the Catastrophic Leave webpage.
